so funny - people have no idea what they are using. Store bought soap is harsh, uses tallow (like you said) and also? uses detergents, yea detergents like the ones at car washes. And guess what herbal essence shampoo doesn't have a single herb in it, and the biotonical silk they are so proud of is CORN SILK - big deal!

For all those complaining about the use of animal fat? in soap, the saponification process turns it into soap, there isn't fat or lye left. It's just soap. Like hydogen and oxygen to make water. Both Ivory and Dove brand soaps are made with tallow (beef fat).

You need fat, but the tricky part is buying lye or NaOH, in the super mega civilized? world we live. NaOH is used for solid soap, and KOH for liquid soap.

I love that you are showing how they did soap in the old days :o) But for the future please use a scale to measure out the lye, oils, and water. Other wise everyone will think that soap can be? measured in cups and not by weight as it should be. Great video though :o)
